Frequently Asked Questions (Batteries)

Primarily 2 different technology types are used for inverter battery application in India – Low Maintenance Flooded Lead Acid Battery & Maintenance free GEL Lead Acid battery. Flooded battery has comparatively higher life, but lower cost with respect to GEL battery. Internal construction wise, both the above technologies can be further sub-classified to FLAT plate battery & TUBULAR plate battery. FLAT plate batteries are recommended for areas with less frequent power cuts. These batteries are affordable, but compared to tubular inverter batteries, have a shorter life cycle. TUBULAR plate inverter batteries are better suited for areas with long power cuts. TUBULAR batteries have comparatively longer service life. Tubular are more durable than a flat plate battery and generally come with a comparatively longer warranty period. LUMINOUS offers a vast portfolio of products comprising both TUBULAR and FLAT technology, at an affordable price positioning, suitable for all type of application areas.

To have the perfect power backup system at home, choosing the right inverter battery is the most important and critical step. While choosing inverter battery for home, following parameters must be critically evaluated – Electrical Load need to be run at home during power outage – this can be done just be adding the WATTAGE of devices planned to run on inverter. Back-up time required – Form the regular power cut trend estimate how much back-up time is required from inverter battery You can calculate the capacity of an inverter battery for home by multiplying the load requirements with hours of backup you need.

Inverter batteries need to be topped up regularly to maintain the electrolyte level in the battery. It is advised to use battery grade distilled water to top up the battery to get maximum life out of it. This type of water is readily available in any battery shop, at a very economical rate.

LUMINOUS batteries are generally offered with Pro-rata warranty, so that customer can avail the maximum benefit even after completion of warranty period. Pro-Rata warranty period starts after completion of “FREE OF COST” Warranty period. If an inverter battery fails after the “FREE OF COST” warranty period, but within its “PRO-RATA” warranty period, you can have it replaced by paying a partial amount based on the age of the battery.

An inverter battery provides essential power backup during shortages, ensuring a continuous and uninterrupted power supply, especially in extreme weather conditions and extended outages.

Frequently Asked Questions (IPS)

An inverter can be defined as an electric power converter responsible for: Converting alternate current from the grid to direct current to charge the battery Again converting direct current from the battery into an alternating current for running devices like fans, lights etc. during a power cut.

Every INVERTER is rated in VA and Volt. VA is the capacity of an INVERTER to run peak load and volt specifies the battery voltage for which the inverter is designed. The battery which is used in INVERTER application is lead acid battery with voltage in multiples of 12 Volt. Each lead acid battery has 6 cells of 2V each which gives the total voltage as 12V. Hence, a 12 Volt INVERTER means that it is designed to operate with 1 battery. A 24V inverter means that it is designed to operate with 2 lead acid batteries.

The primary job of inverter is to transform the DC power stored in the battery to AC power in order to run appliances during a power cut. The major difference between Sine and square wave inverter is in the output waveform received from the inverter. A square wave inverter produces an output that switches between positive, negative and zero volts whereas a sine wave inverter uses filtering to closely approximate a real sine wave which is similar to grid like electricity. Most of the household appliances are designed to work on sine wave which makes sine wave inverters safer than square wave. Also, sine wave inverters are reasonably quiet and no humming sound is observed from the connected load devices like fans, bulbs etc. However, sine wave inverters are little expensive than the square wave variants.

The best inverter for your house depends on your needs which may differ from one house hold to another. Total load to be run on the inverter: As technology has improved, so have the inverters. These days, Inverters are not only capable to handle Fans, lighting and small appliances like TV but even larger appliances like Room Coolers, Refrigerators, Water purifiers, mixer grinders, electric iron, microwave and even air conditioners. Calculate the total load that you would like to run on the inverter at one time. You can refer to the Load calculator on the Luminous website to calculate the right inverter for your home.

Below are features available in the inverters these days. LCD Display: Inverters with LCD display show the Backup time remaining in case of power cut and battery charging time in case when grid supply is normal. It helps user to plan activities efficiently and effectively. Zelio, Optimus and iCruze series are equipped with LCD displays. Fast Battery charging: In areas where there are frequent power cuts, it becomes imperative for inverter to charge the battery faster so that maximum backup is available in the next outage. Shakti charge, Eco Volt neo and Eco watt Rapid are fast battery charging inverters Smart and connected inverters: these inverters can easily connect to the smart phone via an application and share real time inverter battery performance statistics. Smart inverters are available in both Bluetooth and WiFi technology. Zelio –I and Zelio WiFi are smart inverters You can check Luminous website for these features.

Sine wave is an improved and advanced technology which supplies grid like power to your home during power outage which increases the performance and longevity of the connected devices. Square wave produced heat and humming sound which decreases the life of the connected devices. Sine wave inverters are recommended if users need to run sophisticated electronic appliances like TV, Refrigerator, mixer grinders etc.

In areas where there are frequent power cuts, it becomes imperative for inverter to charge the battery faster so that maximum backup is available in the next outage from the battery. In areas suffering from low input voltage, the charging current from inverter to battery decreases which causes extremely slow charging of the battery thereby increasing the total charging time of battery. Therefore, while buying inverters keep in mind the charging current at low input voltage and maximum charging current of the inverter. Shakti charg, Eco Volt neo and Eco watt Rapid are fast battery charging inverters

In the era where all electronic devices are getting smart, inverters are not left far behind. Smart inverters can easily connect to the smart phone via an application and share real time inverter battery performance statistics. Smart inverters get connected to the smart phone via Bluetooth or WiFi technology. Devices on Bluetooth technology have range constraints whereas statistics on WiFi can be viewed from anywhere in the world.Standard inverters on the other hand are more affordable and comes with LED display for various indications

LUMINOUS offers a vast portfolio of inverter products comprising High capacity inverter, Connected inverters, fast charging inverters and inverters with LCD screen at an affordable price positioning, suitable for all type of application areas. All Luminous inverters comes with a warranty of 2 years or 24 months.

All Luminous inverters come with Regulated (UPS) and non-regulated (Eco) mode. Let us understand the functionality of each mode briefly: ECO Mode- The inverter voltage operation range is between 100-290V when inverter is in ECO mode .i.e the inverter will keep charging the battery between the above voltage range. However, when the voltage decreases below 100 v or increases beyond 290 V, the inverter cuts the main supply and starts drawing current form the battery. This mode should be used to operate nominal loads such as lights or fans. This mode increases the battery life by minimizing battery use. UPS Mode- The inverter voltage operation range is between 180V-250V when inverter is in UPS mode .i.e the inverter will keep charging the battery between the above voltage range. However, when the voltage decreases below 180 v or increases beyond 250 V, the UPS inverter cuts the mains supply and switches to the battery. This ensures the safety of sensitive electronic devices, such as computers, hair driers, mixer grinder washing machines, televisions, etc.
